BALTIMORE, MD – Peggy Murphy (born 11/19/1950) stays at the Hope Lodge in Baltimore while she was getting radiation treatment for her breast cancer. She was in a lot of pain and needed a cane to walk. Murphy, 57, complained of pain in her hip for years before doctors finally diagnosed it as a recurrence of the breast cancer she thought she had kicked. Murphy (No. 24 in Dr. Leisha Emens’ study) finished Emens first trial in the spring, but her cancer appears to be spreading. She comes to Johns Hopkins for treatment from the home she shares with her daughter and grandchildren near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. PHOTO BY CHIAKI KAWAJIRI
