9FINALSTAGECANCER Surgery

BALTIMORE, MD – Peggy Murphy (born 11/19/1950) lays in the middle to get a procedure to put a port in her so she can get the chemotherapy smoother. From LT-RT; Wendy Ward (RT), Robert Conklin (fellow), Dr. Christos C. Georgiades, Peggy Murphy, and Even Reyes (RN). Murphy, 57, complained of pain in her hip for years before doctors finally diagnosed it as a recurrence of the breast cancer she thought she had kicked. Murphy (No. 24 in Dr. Leisha Emens’ study) finished Emens first trial in the spring, but her cancer appears to be spreading. She comes to Johns Hopkins for treatment from the home she shares with her daughter and grandchildren near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. PHOTO BY CHIAKI KAWAJIRI
